Assignment 1: Reasons for Writing

A Gruesome Story

Elie Wiesel, a holocaust survivor, wrote Night for several reasons. Heproclaims to have written it to not go mad ,or to go mad to understand such a gruesome experience. Elie wants to

leave behind something, memories a legacy to help prevent this tragedy from happening again. He also wants to expose the Nazis for the horrible things that they did, separating families, killing millions just because of

their religion and then the ability to walk among society like nothing happened. He also wants to apologize to his father. As he was in his last moments he called for him to help but Elie remained still fearing his life, not

comforting him watching, his father die. He wants to promote the glory and truth books and their purpose and why they were written. His finally reason was to the survivors who choose to testify, for the duty is clear,

to speak for the living and the dead. Elie Wiesel did not believe it was his destiny to survive and write this book he believes he lived by chance and felt that it was his duty to write it. To inform the world what happened

at Auchwitz.
